So, I’ve been looking for a super-simple, long-life survival/emergency bar I can pack with me on hiking trips or short over-nighters under the stars with just my cat (yes she loves it… more, I think, the riding on my pack and rolling in the dirt) and my day pack.
I found this recipe and two similar ones so I will link to the one with some pictures. There is a minor debate on the shelf life of bars made with eggs so I chose a recipe without. I wanted to make sure I could make a batch or two at a time and throw one or two in my pack depending on the trip. These will also work for all the Preppers out there in your BOBs or WTSHTF kits.
I don’t have pictures for these bars but this blog made a very similar recipe and she took great pictures and even used the optional Jello! –> Food Storage and Survival
There is about 1000 cal. per bar or 2000 cal. per loaf.
- 3 Cups Cereal (Oatmeal, cornmeal, or wheat flakes.)
- 1/4 Tsp Salt
- 3 Tbsp Honey
- 2 1/2 Cups Powdered Milk
- 1 Cup Sugar
- 3 Tbsp Water
- 3 Tbsp Jello (optional)
- Follow the prep instructions on the Food Storage and Survival (http://foodstorageandsurvival.com/make-your-own-homemade-survival-bars/) website.
